Rob Archie and Peter Hoey pose with the 2021 CA Brewery of the Year trophy.

We are beyond excited to share that we took home the trophy for 2021 California Brewery Of the Year plus two Gold and two Silver medals at the California Craft Beer Cup which is the biggest competition in the state!

Congratulations to all the breweries who took home and medals and a big shoutout to the Sacramento Brewers Guild for taking home the Guild of the Year award. The Sacramento beer scene is thriving and we’re proud to be a part of a city that is producing some of the greatest beers in the state.

Janet's Brown Ale - A Tribute to Mike "Tasty" McDole
Janet's Brown Ale beer cans and pouring beer into a glass.

Janet’s Brown Ale is an American Style Brown Ale features Cascade and Centennial hops with chocolate and light caramel malts which combine for a toasty and chocolate-like malt body dry hopped with American hops for an elevated hop aroma.

This beer is a tribute to Mike "Tasty" McDole, one of the most prolific and well known homebrewers in the world. He passed away late last year after a battle with cancer. Janet's Brown Ale was an open source recipe he provided to home brewers and pro brewers and it has since been made all over the world.

”Tasty was always generous with his time, with his advice, his homebrew and with his treats. The way he would give feedback on beers was constructive, real and without fail, kind. He influenced countless homebrewers and probrewers through his time on the Brewing Network or just chatting at a beer festival or conference. He will be sorely missed around festivals and Bay Area pubs when we can all gather again.”

Local Saison Series
IMG_3631.jpg

We’re excited to share with you three new bottled Saisons as part of our new Local Saison series. Each of these beers features all local ingredients. The malt comes to us from Admiral Maltings in Alameda, CA. The barley, wheat and rye were sourced from Esparto, CA and Woodland, CA. And the apricots in Joy of Apricots are from Whole Star Farms.

Our goal with this series was to highlight our region and the incredible resources and ingredients that we have available to us locally. We are so lucky to have access to these ingredients and to be able to use them in our beers.

Each of these beers was fermented with a mixed culture of our house Saison bend and house brettanomyces. They are all bottle conditioned and will continue to age and mature gracefully for several years.

Be sure to take a closer look at each of these beautiful labels which were illustrated by our friends at Stout Collective.

Joy Of Apricots (Saison w/ Local Apricots)
6.3% ABV / $12+tax/crv per 765ml bottle

Capay Rye (Rye Saison)
5.9% ABV / $9+tax/crv per 765ml bottle

Down the Road (100% Wheat Saison)
6.0% ABV / $9+tax/crv per 765ml bottle

All of these bottles go on sale this Saturday October 24 at Noon. Tell your friends you’ve got lunch plans and we’ll see you this weekend!

Ask URB: Mellowood Series
IMG_0166.jpg
IMG_0175.jpg

What’s the deal with all the Mellowwood beers? We’re glad you asked. The Mellowwood series kicked off last year with the release of Mellowwood Pilsner and since then we’ve released Mellowwood Rauchbier, Mellowwood Maibock and Mellowwood Festbier.

All of the beers in the Mellowwood series have one thing in common — each of them has been lagered for up to 60 days in oak barrels instead of in stainless tanks.

Every beer reacts differently this process but they all share mild oak characteristics without being too intense or overpowering the beer.

We’re thrilled with how the beers in this series have turned out and will continue to add more in the future

.Got a question for us? Leave it below and it might get featured in one of our future posts!
